Your Cosmetic Dentist Knows There’s Power In a Smile
September 30, 2017
As dentists, we already know a smile is an invaluable thing. We see the difference beautiful, healthy teeth make for people all the time — so we love when interesting research comes out that can help other people (you know, non-dentists) better understand the power of a smile! Case in point: an article in Forbes magazine that examines The Untapped Power of Smiling. First published in 2011, it’s an oldie but a goodie. Keep reading to learn why your cosmetic dentist near Arlington Heights is excited to share the news in this week’s blog post!
The Science Behind the Smile
The author of the article says he noticed one remarkable thing during a particularly grueling morning run — that he could actually feel better while running if he simply smiled. That got him thinking about the power of a smile and how we can use it to impact our daily lives.
What did he find? A ton of research on the subject, including studies carried out using high school photos from the 1950s. By analyzing the size (and authenticity) of high schoolers’ smiles, researchers could accurately predict everything from how long and fulfilling their marriages would be to how much of an inspiration they were to others.
As it turns out, smiling releases endorphins in the brain that make you feel good and also release stress. But the trick is to really love your smile. Fake smiling, or forcing a grin even when you don’t necessarily want to, just doesn’t have the same effect.
How Cosmetic Dentistry Can Help
So what can you do if you want to be genuinely happier and reap all the benefits of smiling — but you just don’t love the way your front teeth look? These days, there is a wonderful solution at your dentist’s office. Visiting a cosmetic dentist to discuss your options will help you see that you don’t have to live with imperfect teeth and gums any longer.
Some of the treatments that can help reveal dazzling teeth include:
- Porcelain veneers, which cover up the appearance of chipped, stained, uneven, or otherwise imperfect front teeth
- Professional teeth whitening that brightens teeth by up to 8 shades in a single visit
- Direct bonding, which uses composite resin to rebuild the structure of damaged tooth enamel
- Metal-free restorations that blend cosmetic and restorative solutions for front teeth
- Gum recontouring for a gummy smile or uneven gumline
It’s Not Too Late to Love Your Smile
The key to flashing a genuine smile is feeling confident in the way it looks. Fortunately, cosmetic dentistry is more accessible and affordable than ever before. Most adults who wish to improve the appearance of their front teeth are excellent candidates for cosmetic dentistry. Don’t wait to get started on your treatment plan — because you deserve a smile that looks as great as it feels!
